Asylum Project

This project brings together Rainbow Haven’s expertise in welcoming and supporting people who are seeking asylum, refugees and vulnerable migrants, with Home-Start Manchester who have expertise in offering peer support to families.

‘I am excited about working in partnership with Rainbow Haven to increase support offered to families, ideally matching a family with a volunteer when they have newly arrived in Manchester.’ Marina Donnellan, Asylum project coordinator

Families with at least 1 child under 5 years who are seeking asylum or have issues with immigration such as no recourse to public funds can access volunteer-led home visiting support from us.

Our volunteers have received training from Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit alongside in-house training in Cultural Awareness. Our Asylum project Coordinator works closely with other agencies providing support to families experiencing difficulties relating to immigration to ensure we provide a collective response to often complex family situations.

This project also actively recruits volunteers with lived experience of seeking asylum (often who now have Refugee or British citizenship status) to support families within this project.
