Family Support Worker

30 hours-4 days but flexible working available
NJC Scale 9 £20,903 (Actual salary £16,948) Fixed term until June 25, extension subject to funding

Home-Start Manchester is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. 

We are looking for a Family Support Worker to complement the work of our volunteers, working directly with children and their families in their own homes and surrounding community in order to promote, strengthen and develop their potential. Experience of working with families with poor mental health and knowledge of the early parent-infant relationship is desirable, as well as a good knowledge of children’s development needs in the early years and the effect the Covid Pandemic has had on families and children. An understanding of trauma informed practice is also desirable.

The Family Support Worker will work in close partnership with other professional to collectively meet families’ needs. Parenting and/or experience of working with children and families, a minimum Level 3 or equivalent in Early Years/ Health and Social Care, and I.T proficiency are essential requirements for this post.  

Weekly hours can be worked flexibly, both in the office and at home, whilst meeting the need of the service. The role will require travel across all Manchester communities. It is desirable that applicants have use of their own car, for which expenses are paid. A DBS (Enhanced Level) will be required.
