Sahara Project Volunteer Support Coordinator

37 hours per week Scale 12-20, starting salary £21, 589

Home-Start Manchester is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under 5 years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. This as a new role in an exciting new domestic violence and abuse project led by The Pankhurst Trust incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid.

The Sahara project aims to reduce risk & increase safety for black and minority ethnic women & girls using quality interventions including outreach support, accredited group work, drop in support and volunteer support. The main objective of this post is to coordinate a volunteer peer mentor service for women as part of a ‘step down’ offer within the project. Volunteers will befriend & offer practical support to women and their children in their communities. This may include basic emotional support, practical help to get out of the home and to attend services and appointments, and practical help in the home.

The Sahara project Volunteer Support Coordinator will be experienced in working with women who have been affected by DVA. They will also have experience of working with families and young children. The post holder will work closely with the immediate project team, the Home-Start team and a wider team of professionals from adult and children’s services. Experience of working in new projects with ambitious targets is essential.

The hours of work are 37 a week (worked flexibly according to the need of the service) including some lunchtime and evening work. The post will operate across Manchester communities, with options to work from multiple offices. Applicants must have use of their own car, for which expenses are paid. A Criminal Record Disclosure (Enhanced Level) will be required.

Funding for this post is secured until March 2022. Please note, this vacancy is open to females only (exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, part 1).
