On this page, you will find out more about the role of being a Home-Start volunteer and hear from some of our current volunteers on why they give their time to us and why they want to support local parents and their children.

Home-Start is one of Greater Manchester’s leading family support charities.
For almost 25 years, local Home-Start volunteers have been offering emotional and practical support to families.
Why? Because parenting can be hard for so many reasons. From dealing with poverty and isolation to poor mental health and relationship breakdowns. All these issues can affect a parent’s ability to cope.

And this is where Home-Start steps in.

Our volunteers who live in our local communities offer a mixture of practical and emotional, non-judgemental support, for however long a family needs them. More than anything, our volunteers are there as a regular, friendly face, an extra pair of hands and a shoulder to cry on. Could this be you?

Could you be the person that gifts two hours of your time each week to help change a family’s future?

We are committed to safeguarding and protecting the people we care for, creating a setting in which everyone feels welcome and safe. All paid and voluntary posts are subject to a safer recruitment process which includes the disclosure of criminal records and barring checks, scrutiny of volunteering/employment history, robust referencing and other vetting checks. Our safeguarding system is underpinned by a range of policies and procedures which encourage and promote safe working practice across the organisation. We make sure that all our staff are trained and supervised to a high standard so they can provide safe, effective practice.
